Why Homemade Pickles Beat Store-Bought, Every Time

12 May 2026

Walk down any supermarket aisle and you'll find rows of pickle jars that all taste vaguely the same. That's because they're built for shelf life, not flavour: synthetic vinegar, preservatives like sodium benzoate, refined oil, and machine-cut vegetables that never see the sun.

A homemade pickle is a different thing entirely. At MeriNani, every batch starts with vegetables bought fresh that morning, cut by hand, and salted and sun-cured the traditional way. The only preservatives are the ones nature gave us: salt, oil, sunlight and time.

That's also why our pickles taste different from batch to batch, season to season โ€” just like Nani's did. We think that's a feature, not a flaw.
